Stem Cell Research

The generous endowments created by Jim and Virginia Stowers support all forms of stem cell research, each having the potential to ease suffering and improve human health. Stowers researchers have the freedom to pursue the most exciting, most promising research, and they are poised to lead the rapidly evolving field of stem cell biology.

At the Stowers Institute for Medical Research, scientists are conducting innovative research with various types of stem cells. Just as environmental scientists are exploring solar, wind, biofuels and other potential solutions to the global energy crisis, medical science must continue exploring the full range of stem cell research, including adult, embryonic, iPS, and somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) stem cells. It is far too soon to abandon any form of stem cell research, and it is highly likely that ultimate solutions to various diseases will come from different sources of stem cells.

Stem Cell Research Annual Report
In compliance with provisions in the Missouri Stem Cell Research and Cure Initiative, the Stowers Institute files annual reports on all human embryonic stem cell research with the Missouri Secretary of State. The Institute's most recent report is available at www.stowers-institute.org/doc/disclosure/2009-hEsc-AnnualReport.pdf.
